About Reflect to Act

Creating educational spaces that are inclusive and representative of all—especially underrepresented—students is the key to a successful and healthy school environment. It is the way we help all students develop a strong sense of self, an understanding of their many identities and an atmosphere of belonging.

During a Reflect to Act workshop/presentation, founder Kelly Yiadom will lead participants in reflective exercises around equity and inclusion work, create a shared DEI language, and help participants develop a plan for creating inclusive spaces for students in schools. Most importantly, she will aid attendees in discovering their superpowers and skill sets to develop new habits around diversity, inclusion, equity and justice practices.

About the Founder

Reflect to Act founder Kelly Yiadom

Kelly Yiadom is a community leader and educator who believes in being solution oriented for impact.

For over 15 years, she successfully taught middle school at a Philadelphia charter school and upper elementary school in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District. She is the founder of Family Alliance for Respect and Equity (F.A.R.E.), a parent diversity group within a Delaware County, Pennsylvania School District. This organization focuses on creating diversity awareness and culturally responsive approaches among parents, students, teachers and administrators. In line with her equity lens, she co-founded Circle of Giving 2020 in March 2020 to provide support to families impacted by the pandemic. To date, she and her team have raised over $200,000.

Kelly also delivered a TEDx Talk on Using Parental Superpowers to Drive Diversity in Education, which focuses on creating a new normal in educational settings. To further this work, she teamed up with colleagues to create the How to Talk To Kids workshop series, which was funded by Learning for Justice, and provided parents practical approaches for starting conversations with their children around a range of diversity topics. Kelly graduated from Swarthmore College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, with a special major in education. She also has her certification in diversity and inclusion from Cornell University. Kelly currently serves as the Equity and Inclusion Director at The Westtown Lower and Middle School.
