About the Village

In order for equity and inclusion efforts to be effective in your community, all members of that community need to engage in the work. This is what we call The Village.

The Village is comprised of parents/guardians, students, faculty and staff, and administrators.

  • Parents/Guardians are a central part of bringing this work center in their homes.  Creating opportunities for parent education so there is a clear understanding of shared DEI language, how to have difficult conversations and how to better support the work happening in school, is critical to the growth and progression of students in the DEI space.

  • Students are often at the helm of this work in advance of adults.  Because of peer relationships and access they may have to social media, young learners are often grappling with information they have amassed along the way.  Ensuring students have accurate information, knowledge of appropriate language and empowerment with their voices are just a few ways this work.

  • Educators benefit from professional development focused on Culturally Responsive Practices which provides a constant opportunity for evaluating teaching and learning.  Parent/Guardian education is a key part of helping families delve more deeply into conversations with their children around these topics.

  • Administrators often set the tone for how DEI practices are implemented in schools. Culturally Responsive Culture is embedded in the evaluation process, strategic vision, mission and daily practices.
